In the hopes of becoming a lifetime member, today is the day I work another five minute scene before a panel of judges at the historic temple that is The Actors Studio / New York. My scene partner and fellow potential finalist, Miller Pyke and I did solid work at the preliminary auditions last October. Today, we go in for round two. Fingers crossed. Barefoot Shakespeare Company returns to Summit Rock for our fifth FREE summer season, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth in rotating repertory! Join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love, with both plays taking place in 1967 but set worlds apart: Midsummer in San Francisco and Macbeth in Vietnam. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, one night's journey through a primeval forest wreaks havoc with the hearts and minds of four young rebels, an avant-garde theatre troupe, and even a fairy or two. Can reason be regained --or should it? Macbeth reeks of death, decay, and destruction, all caused by knee-jerk reactions to fear in the conquest for power. Deep in the jungles of Vietnam, a drug-riddled group of soldiers learn they'll not find ‘'a devil more damned in evils to top Macbeth”. Music, magic, and the supernatural work in concert in these takes on one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies and one of his most terrifying tragedies. March: CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS by Sam Shepard with the Brooklyn Acting Lab A darkly comic exploration of the American family psyche, this Obie Award-winning play is an expository look at the four members of the Tate family who live on a half-neglected farm in rural California. Having driven his family deep into debt, an alcoholic father strives for an impossible redemption in a home his wife has struggled to maintain for so long. Meanwhile, their two children teeter on the brink of adolescence and adulthood, revealing the role their parents’ dysfunction plays in their escalated loss of innocence. Trapped in a grotesque farce of the American dream, we see these four characters seduced by credit and developers, dreaming of escape while constantly facing the reality of hunger. The play examines the death of the American family as hardship clouds all interaction and any mutual understanding is lost. Intended for audiences 16+ Thursday, March 22 – 7:30pm Friday, March 23 – 7:30pm Saturday, March 24 – 7:30pm Sunday, March 25 – 7:30pm The Mark O’Donnell Theater at the Actors Fund Arts Center 160 Schermerhorn St Brooklyn, NY 11201 Feb: You're invited!
